Secure Source International, LLC is providing this brief for Uganda in the wake of an assassination attempt on General Edward Katumba Wamala, Minister of Works and Transport, who was engaged by gunmen on 06/02/2021. General Wamala is recovering but his daughter and his driver were killed. The alleged assassins’ route was captured through a series of cameras.  

The attackers are currently unknown – although assumptions were made by Brigadier Flavia Byekwaso on who was behind the attack. Her comments can be viewed at this link.

Social Media searches reveal a state of unrest as General Wamala’s inner circle is perceived as both his closest allies and his enemies. A call to action, or revenge, has also been made.

The attack on one of the highest Ugandan government officials, and public reaction, should be considered when traveling through Uganda in the following weeks.

Of note, no mention of General Wamala was made by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassa on her official Twitter page. Her first state visit to Uganda was on
